Results

Are you anxiously awaiting the results of the District 7 Arts and Crafts show? Well, here are my results. Second prize for the Rose photo and first prize for my Memory Scrapbook of Wini's two year presidency. We had a lovely time bidding on wonderful purses as a fund raiser for Heifer International, the State president's project. I won this great black and white themed basket with polka-dot purse, soft stuffed cow, thank you notes, farmer salt and pepper shakers and two chocolate bars. It was lots of fun for a good cause.

Valentine Tea and Art Show

Tuesday, our women's club had their annual Valentine Tea and Art Show. We also enjoyed a program by Jack Fortes of music from the Big Band era. My contribution to the Tea was cucumber sandwiches. The recipe is from my best friend, Rae. My art entry was the photo of a red rose and a scrapbook of the Club's activities over the last two years. Both will be going to the district show this weekend. I'm also the official photographer for our Club's events and the photos can be seen at our web site http://www.sorosis.org/ I'm grateful for new friends and for an outlet for my hobbies.

Happy Valentine's Day

Fresh flowers, Rhine wine, German chocolates, bacon wrapped filet, all made for a happy hug-your-honey day. I'm grateful for our new grocery chain from Germany, the Aldi store.

Looking Forward

We are looking forward to becoming Great Grandparents next month. Our oldest Grandson and his wife are expecting a boy. I've finally got a baby gift going. It's a crib quilt kit which is cross stitched and embroidered. I'm thinking I should have started on it about eight months ago. It's fun, but exacting, and I'm wearing my Granny glasses to sew it. Here's hoping it's finished before the baby is out of the crib.

Words to Live by

Recently, I received an email from someone close to me after I had expressed some concerns about the future. Her words have come back to me many times during the past week and I thought I'd pass them on.

"We are praying that this project will be successful. Only time will tell. I have faith that if this isn't the right thing, God will open the right doors for us and our family. So far, God has given us a peace about it, so all we can do is continue and pray for God's Will." .... Words to live by.

What Didn't Freeze

Today, it feels more like Florida. After another hard freeze on Thursday and Friday, we are out in the yard assessing the damage and enjoying a more normal temperature: 69. We have no business complaining compared to the terrible time they are having north of us, but we haven't experienced two hard freezes in one winter in all the time I can remember. The birdbath was frozen solid again and that is our true test. But, here on the north side of the house, the Poinsettia plant came through without harm as well as the Hens and Chicks. Neither was covered and we were surprised and delighted. The aloe vera plant which is blooming survived as well. Time will tell how much of the brown plants and bushes will sprout again in spring.

Great Hairdresser Gratitude

In this cold, gloomy winter, nothing helps as much as a great hairdresser who will get you in at a moments notice and actually give you the hair cut that you imagined. This day, I'm grateful for Marlene and the nice job she did raising my spirits and cutting my hair. Thanks, Marlene. Golden scissors award!

Blast from the Past

The Internet is a wonderful thing. I received a message from my high school classmate, Linda, informing me of the 50th anniversary in the priesthood of our Religion teacher, Fr. John Caulfield. He is now a Monsignor.

Memories flooded back and in answer to a request for an eleventh grade picture, I dug up this photo. Monsignor Caulfield is now in a parish in Lakeland, Fl. and I'm now in contact with Linda. The Internet is a wonderful thing.
