Honoring Earth Day

Today, some neighbors and I got together for a community entrance clean up. Stephanie, who lives on Altec Court passed out flyers to the whole neighborhood inviting all to participate at 10: AM. It was to show our community pride and honor Earth Day. Besides myself and Stephanie, there were Cookie, her son, and two grandsons, Juan and his two boys, Clive, Mr. Bill, and a late-comer that I didn't get a name from. We worked until 11:45 and got a lot done. Two pick-ups were filled and about 20 trash bags. I awarded pots of mint plants to the first four to show up. Juan, Mr. Bill, Clive and Stephanie were the grateful winners.

I asked them all to stay until I went home and got my camera to document the occasion. Afterwards, I invited them to view my garden on their way home. Four of them actually did. I enjoyed giving the tour. It was a pleasant morning.

Rose Explosion

I'm having an explosion of roses in my garden this spring. Apparently, the unusually cold winter agreed with them. I also cut them back in February more severely than in the past . Now, I'm reaping the rewards with roses in almost every room and plenty to share with others. And you, too.

New Roof

There's nothing that exciting about a new roof but that's what's going on at our house. It's finally done and although it's difficult to get a true picture of the finished product, we managed to get a lot of shots trying. It means no more climbing on the roof, or like the song goes: no more monkeys jumping on the bed.

The Power of the Ant

Recently, while I was housecleaning, I came across an unusual demonstration of strength. I had swept a little pile of crumbs on my lamenant kitchen floor, and then vacuumed the pile up with my Hoover. On closer inspection, there remained a little black dot. I waited a second, and behold, it started to walk. A tiny ant was defying my sweeper. So, I just ran over it again, and once more, the ant clung to the floor against all odds and the 12 amp power of my vacuum. Each time I tried, it held on, then scurried forward. What strength! And, what a lesson for all of us in these uncertain times. Let us all harness the power of the ant and strive to hold on, then move forward against the Mother of all Vacuums! The present economy.
